Natural and original Krill oil is usually derived from the Antarctic Krill from the deep waters of the Antarctic and southern oceans. The Krill is a crustacean from the shrimp family and does look similar to it, though a lot smaller.
Because Krill are swarm creatures, the density of Krill swarms – some 60,000 Krill per square feet – make them viable for commercial fishing and consumption. Aside from human consumption, Krill and its oil derivative are used to produce dietary supplements.
Dr Oz on Krill Oil:
Medical research from legitimate scientific and medical communities have confirmed that Krill oil has enormous effects in supporting the overall health of the brain, heart, and joints, healthy cholesterol levels, improved moods, and support of decreased pain effects during menstruation.
Krill oil contains phospholipids, omega 3 fatty acids, and the antioxidant astaxanthin that are all naturally produced and contained in the human body. Thus, Krill oil helps in the increase of the production of these important nutrients.
Krill Oil vs Fish Oil
Medical research conducted at the University of Montreal of Krill oil initially found that it reduces dysmenorrhea. This is the gynecological medical condition of severe uterine pain experienced by most women during menstrual periods. Likewise, Krill oil was found to reduce the emotional symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and was more effective than fish oil.
A study done at the McGill University compared the effects of Krill oil vs fish oil. Daily doses of the same 1 to 3g from both oils found that Krill oil was significantly more effective in the treatment of hyperlipidemia.
However, due to the difficulty in obtaining Krill from commercial fishing and the higher price of Krill oil, fish oil is more common as a cheaper dietary supplement. Also, the omega 3 fatty acids derived from fish oil is being trumpeted as the big nutrient to help fight cardiovascular diseases such as stroke and heart attacks.
A very significant discovery made by a medical study conducted in Canada found that a daily dose of 300mg of Krill oil significantly reduced arthritic symptoms and prevents further inflammation.
This further strengthens other medical research that confirms other Krill oil benefits such as:
- Reduction of the distress and pain from joint disease and stiff joints.
- Improvement of brain and memory function.
- Improvement from the symptoms of menstrual syndromes.
- Raising the level of HDL or good cholesterol.
- Minimizing the dangerous levels of triglycerides,
- Reduction of heart inflammation.
- Reduction of the effects and of arterial clogging itself.
Where Does the Highest Quality Krill Oil Come From?
From Antarctica. Because of it’s location the krill that live there are free from industrial pollution which is getting harder and harder to escape from.
